Matt Kansteiner – Director of Program Operations (mattkansteiner@aquaticadventures.org)
Matt Kansteiner is the Director of Program Operations for Aquatic Adventures. Kansteiner manages all program logistics, oversees facilities and communication with partners. As a part of the Aquatic Adventures team since 2001, Kansteiner has held several positions with Aquatic Adventures. Kansteiner holds a B.S. in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Marine Science and a M.Ed. with a specialization in curriculum design and teaching from the University of San Diego.
Travis Kemnitz – Director of Instruction & Student Relations (traviskemnitz@aquaticadventures.org)
Travis Kemnitz is the Director of Instruction and Student Relations for Aquatic Adventures. Kemnitz is the primary instructor for Aquatic Adventures’ after school programs including, BAHÍA, SEA Semester and Students Empowering Students. He oversees student relations including case management, tracking and family involvement. In addition, Kemnitz manages all part-time staff and volunteers. Kemnitz holds a B.S. in Environmental Studies and several certifications including Wilderness First Responder and Advanced Scuba.
Jamie Weed – Office & Grants Administrator (jamieweed@aquaticadventures.org)
Jamie Weed is the Office and Grants Administrator at Aquatic Adventures. Weed holds a B.S in environmental science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Prior to Aquatic Adventures, Weed was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala working on community management and was the office of manager of a small business.
Lea Boyd – Lead Instructor & Project Coordinator (leaboyd@aquaticadventures.org)
Lea Boyd is a Lead Instructor and Program Coordinator for Aquatic Adventures. Along with her role as classroom and field instructor, Boyd coordinates the organization’s annual donor event and is director of summer camp. She holds a B.A. in Integrative Biology from the University of California. Prior to her work with Aquatic Adventures, Boyd conducted field research and was an educator.
Dr. Drew Talley – Science Director
Drew Talley is Science Director for Aquatic Adventures. He oversees development of science curriculum, content evaluation, and guides the research programs. Talley is the research coordinator at San Francisco Bay NERR and an associate ecologist at U.C. Davis. Talley received his B.S. in Biology from San Diego State University, and earned a Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California.
Margaret Ortega – Lead Hoover High School Instructor
Margaret Ortega is the Lead Hoover High School Instructor for Aquatic Adventures. She develops and facilitates the college readiness and communication of research programs. In addition, she works with Kemnitz to facilitate student management and family relations. Ortega is also a Hoover High School resource teacher. Ortega holds a B.A. in Psychology from San Francisco State University. She earned her teaching Credentials San Marcos State University, and completed a Master of Arts in Education at San Diego State University.
Sarah Blakeslee – Lead Instructor and Project Assistant (sarahblakeslee@aquaticadventures.org)
Sarah Blakeslee is a Lead Instructor and Project Assistant for Aquatic Adventures. Blakeslee holds a B.A. in Physical Geography and Biology. She has worked as an instructor at the School for Field Studies and an outdoor education center, captained a 47-foot sailing vessel out of Andros Island, Bahamas, and worked for The Nature Conservancy.
Victoria Vasquez – Marine Science Instructor and Project Assistant (victoriavasquez@aquaticadventures.org)
Victoria Vasquez is a Marine Science Instructor and Project Assistant for Aquatic Adventures. She holds a B.S
in Evolution and Ecology with an emphasis in Zoology as well as minors in Psychology and Art Studio from U.C. Davis.
Shara Fisler – Executive Director (sharafisler@aquaticadventures.org)
Shara Fisler is founder and Executive Director of Aquatic Adventures. Fisler also acts as co-chair of the Southern California Wetlands Recovery Project San Diego Task Force. She holds a B.S. in environmental science from the University of California Santa Barbara and an M.A. in marine resource management from the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. Fisler was an instructor at the University of San Diego in the Marine and Environmental Studies and Biology Departments where she taught marine science and evolutionary biology for 9 years. She is winner of the 2004 Community Leadership Award by the United Farm Workers and 2000 Channel 10 Leadership Award.
