BAHÍA is an after-school and summer program in City Heights extended to Herbert Hoover High School students, which provides experiential education in the sciences, field research opportunities, and a series of academic and personal supports. BAHÍA brings these students to a unique ecological preserve in Baja California, where the participating young people make meaningful contributions to real-world, conservation-focused scientific research. Through BAHÍA, traditionally underserved youth explore career opportunities in science and technology fields, while preparing to attend college and building their knowledge of the sciences. By taking responsibility for managing significant research projects, the students build their sense of self-efficacy and gain the confidence necessary to attain their goals after high school. Over a two-year period, 30-45 students will be served by the BAHÍA program. The program is provided year round with emphasis during summer months.
